Improve your writing skill by reading books, newspapers and magazines

Having a good idea is very necessary to have a good essay. However, you sometimes feel congested because of having no idea. You do not know how to write, even when you are given a distinct topic. Therefore, the only thing you can do is to read books, newspapers or magazines to broaden your knowledge related to that topic. But is it really good if you copy all information from them? This article will show you the way to read and effectively exploit them.

First of all, you had better prepare these things: books, magazines or newspapers; a note book and a pen. Books, newspapers and magazines are used to read. Obviously, you can choose any topic such as economy, history, society, entertainment or techniques to read. How about notebook and pen? They are used for saving useful information you get from the essays, stories or articles you read.

Next is about reading process. Before reading the content of article or essay, you needread its title to guess its meaning. Then, read over the article or essay from the first sentence to the last sentence in a fast speed to find the exact topic. After understanding the writer’s purpose, it is time for you to search for good ideas. When yousee any interesting or expensive idea, do not forget to write it in your notebook. Besides, you can also write some special events, new words, idioms or slangs in the situation you are reading an English book. Do you know that saving important ideas and other factors in your notebook will help you keep them longer and safer? It is simple because sometimes, you cannot remember everything you have read.

The most important thing is the way you apply those good ideas for your writing. If you have to write an essay or a composition and your thinking is too poor to produce a perfect product, open the notebook where you have saved many expensive ideas you get from a lot of articles and essays. With those excellent ideas, you will be able to make your essay more extensive and informative. However, never break the rule:“You must not perfectly copy or steal those ideas.” Remember that you should respect the authors. Therefore, you would rather change those ideas into your ideas by replacing the structures and words than heartlessly copy them. You had better use them as supplements which are added to your own opinion. A special essay should have a strange style, which is different from anyone.

Lastly, I hope you will spend at least 30 minutes a day reading books, newspapers or magazines to expand your knowledge at all fields. Remember to save good ideas you like in your notebook and reasonably use them in your essays when necessary. I am sure your essays will be always interesting, informative and meaningful.
