Someone once said that having your first baby is a bit like buying a wonderful new computer and then finding that there is no instruction manual. Certainly bringing up children is not an easy task. A young child can ruin your own life, and can strain your relationship with your spouse, if you don’t have eye to eye about the child’s diet, behavior or bedtime. Later on, the first child is always jealous of its little brother or sister, and their constant fighting can reduce even the most easy-going parents to a nervous wreck. Above all, children are a source of constant worry. Will he be knocked off his bike on his way to school? Will they wreck the house while I’m out? What if I don’t agree to her latest boyfriend? Many parents can’t wait to see the absence of their children when they leave home – but then find they’re dreadfully lonely without them.
